What is Abilify?
Aripiprazole, commonly known as Abilify is an antipsychotic medication used primarily for the treatment of schizophrenia. Abilify also recently received FDA approval for the treatment of certain types of bipolar disorder, and as an adjunct treatment for depression. Abilify works by slightly changing the actions of certain chemicals in the brain to reduce the symtoms of schizphrenia and bipolar disorder.

Abilify Side Effects
Serious Abilify side effects:
- fever, stiff muscles,confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats
- jerky muscle movements you cannot control
- sudden numbness or weakness, headache, confusion, or problems with vision, speech, or balance
- increased thirst or urination, loss of appetite, fruity breath odor, drowsiness, dry skin, nausea, and vomiting
- seizure (convulsions)
- thoughts of hurting yourself
- feeling like you might pass out
- jaundice (yellowing of your skin or eyes)
- urinating less than usual or not at all
Stop taking Abilify and call your doctor immediately if you experience any of these side effects. Abilify is not to be used for pshychotic conditions related to dementia. It can cause heart failure, sudden death, or pneumonia in older patients with dementia-related sypmtoms
Less serious Abilify side effects:
- dizziness, drowsiness, or weakness

restlessness
- constipation
- weight gain
- insomnia
